Tokyo Olympic medalists Neeraj Chopra and Lovlina Borgohain are among the 12 sportspersons to be awarded the Khel Ratna. Other Sports News

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on Tuesday announced the names of 12 sportspersons who will be honored with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award for the year 2021. India’s highest sporting honour will be given to gold medalist Neeraj Chopra and several medalists from Tokyo Olympics including Paralympics. The list also includes Indian women’s cricket legend Mithali Raj and Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri. The awards will be given as part of the National Sports Awards to be held on November 13. All the players will receive their awards from the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan. National Sports Awards are given every year to recognize and reward excellence in sports. A total of 35 sportspersons will receive the Arjuna Award for their outstanding performance in sports.

The 12 sportspersons who will be given India’s highest sporting honour, the Khel Ratna, are:

1) Neeraj Chopra (Gold medalist in men’s javelin throw at Tokyo Olympics)

2) Lovlina Borgohain (Bronze medalist in women’s welterweight boxing in Tokyo Olympics)

3) Ravi Kumar Dahiya (Silver medalist in men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling at Tokyo Olympics)

4) PR Sreejesh (Goalkeeper of Indian men’s hockey team that won bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics)

5) Avani Lekhara (Gold and Bronze medalist in women’s rifle shooting events at Tokyo Paralympics)

6) Sumit Antil (Gold medalist in men’s javelin throw F64 event at Tokyo Paralympics)

7) Pramod Bhagat (Gold medalist in men’s SL3 singles badminton event at Tokyo Paralympics)

8) Krishna Nagar (Gold medalist in men’s SH6 singles badminton event at Tokyo Paralympics)

9) Manish Narwal (Gold medalist in P4 mixed 50m pistol SH1 event at Tokyo Paralympics)

10) Mithali Raj (Captain of the Indian Women’s Test and ODI teams. Leading run-scorer in Women’s ODIs)

11) Sunil Chhetri (Captain of Indian men’s football team and record goalscorer for India)
