T20 World Cup: Babar Azam beats Virat Kohli to become fastest to 2500 T20I runs

In the T20 World Cup semi-final match between Pakistan and Australia on Thursday, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam etched his name in the history books by becoming the fastest batsman to score 2500 runs in T20Is. He broke the record held by Virat Kohli, who achieved the feat in 68 innings, while Azam did so in 62 innings.

Azam, who scored 39 off 34 balls, scored the most runs in the first T20 World Cup with 303, making him the first batsman to score 300 runs in the T20 World Cup 2021. He overtook Jos Buttler of England in the standings. He has become the highest run scorer in this edition of T20 World Cup.

Adding another feat to fulfill his T20 World Cup cap, Azam is also the top scorer in the T20 World Cup 2021.

Pakistan is a team that is breaking and creating records every day in this World Cup and it became clear again when the Babar-Rizwan partnership crossed 400+ runs in the tournament which is the T20 World Cup. There is a novelty in Mohammad Rizwan also became the first player to score 1000 runs in T20Is in a calendar year.

Earlier, Australia won a crucial toss and elected to field against unbeaten Pakistan on Thursday. In ten of the 11 matches held in Dubai, the team has won due to dew while chasing the target.

Pakistan have placed faith in the same XI that won all their five group games and extended their unbeaten record in T20Is to 16 matches in the UAE since 2016.
