Australia opener David Warner said he wanted to play a brilliant innings for all as his team thrashed New Zealand by eight wickets in the final match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Sunday. Mitchell Marsh and David Warner scored 77 and 53 respectively as Australia clinched their maiden T20 World Cup title at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. In the summit clash, Australia chased down a target of 173 runs to beat New Zealand by eight wickets with seven balls to spare.
“Always felt really good. There wasn’t much time in between the two practice matches. But for me, it was about going back to basics. Going to tough, synthetic wickets and trying to hit a few balls. Definitely there with 2015. It’s definitely sad to be part of the World Cup final against England a decade ago,” Warner said in a post-match presentation.
Warner was declared the Player of the Tournament and also became the highest run-scorer for Australia in the T20 World Cup with a total of 289 runs in this tournament.
The opener also became the second highest run-scorer of the current T20 World Cup. Pakistan captain Babar Azam is the highest run-scorer with 303 runs.
