“Queue too long”: Harbhajan Singh warns out-of-form Ajinkya Rahane ahead of New Zealand Test series cricket news

Indian spin great Harbhajan Singh believes veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane could be out of the pecking order if he fails to score runs in the upcoming India vs New Zealand Test series. Speaking on the eve of the first Test between India and New Zealand in Kanpur, the veteran off-spinner said that despite the backing of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Rahane remains on thin ice as several players are waiting to replace him. .

“Virat Kohli is not there (for the first Test and Rohit Sharma has also opted to rest. Then there is Ajinkya Rahane. We are thinking whether he will be in the team or not. But he has been handed the captaincy.) ,” Harbhajan said while previewing the first Test in a video uploaded on Sportskeeda Cricket’s YouTube channel.

“The last 11 matches have not been very good as he averages around 19 (19.58). He is a brilliant cricketer but it has not been reflected in his performance in recent times. But also looking at the thinking of Rohit, Virat and Good. Rahul Dravid because he believes Rahane should be in the team.”

“Not only that, he has been given the captaincy. So, I hope he will lead the team and also score runs with the bat so that we can see him play a little more. If he doesn’t score runs, then the queue ( The players waiting to replace him) is too long. Suryakumar Yadav is waiting in the queue among others,” he added.

India will take on New Zealand for the first time since the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June earlier this year. Also, this will be India’s first home Test series in about 8-9 months.

With the first Test starting on Thursday at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, Harbhajan insisted that India should start well and move ahead by playing good cricket in the series.

“The England tour went well for the Indian team. Since then, there has been a lot of T20 cricket, be it IPL 2021 or the T20 World Cup. So, it is like a new season as we will be playing a Test series at home. After a long time,” he said.

He said, “It will be important how India starts against New Zealand because they have the ability to beat India in India. I hope that India’s team will grow by playing good cricket.”
