Pakistan were put to bat after Australia won the toss and elected to field first in Dubai.
Captain Babar Azam and his opening partner Mohammad Rizwan gave Pakistan a great start again. After Babar was dismissed for 39, Fakhar Zaman and Rizwan added 72 runs in 46 balls for the second wicket to take their team to the top.
Rizwan was dismissed for 67 by Mitchell Starc while Asif Ali was dismissed for a golden duck. Shoaib Malik also fell cheap as Pakistan were looking for a big finish. Despite wickets falling at the other end, Fakhar Zaman continued to beat the Aussies in all parts of Dubai, remaining unbeaten on 55 off 32 balls as Pakistan posted 176 for four.
Australia had a poor start and captain Aaron Finch was dismissed for a golden duck by Shaheen Shah Afridi in the very first over. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, however, retaliated well after the powerplay overs to put the Aussies in a strong position.
However, things went downhill for Australia after that. Marsh fell after the end of the Powerplay while Steve Smith was sent cheaply packing. Warner was going well, but Shadab Khan dismissed one of his half-centuries. Glenn Maxwell could not make a significant contribution and soon Australia found themselves barreling down in complete control of Pakistan.
That’s when Stoinis and Wade started thrashing the Pakistan bowlers together. Wade ended things with a barrage of sixes as Australia set up a mouthwatering final against their trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand.
