night jasmine, also known as parijat And Harsingar, is a small ornamental tree that bears fragrant white flowers with orange twigs. Its soothing and calming fragrance is loved and cherished by many.
Known as the Queen of the Night, this tree blooms only at night and is known to shed all its flowers in the morning. It is also a sacred tree mentioned in Hindu mythology, said Ayurvedic physician Dr Diksa Bhavsar.
“Harsingar is a plant of various health benefits. The tree’s antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties make it a blessing for human health and wellbeing. The leaves are given to treat chronic fever, rheumatism, rheumatism, joint pain, sciatica,” she explained.
Here’s how you can use it for various health benefits, as shared by Dr. Bhavsar.
Take 3-4 leaves and grind them. Boil it with water, then filter it and drink it twice a day on an empty stomach.
for swelling and pain
To make a decoction, boil the leaves in water and drink it.
Make a decoction of 200 grams of water by taking leaves, bark, flowers (about 5 grams). The decoction is said to be made when the water is reduced to the initial volume.
for dry cough
Grind the leaves in a mortar and pestle and extract the juice and consume it with honey.
Drink it like tea. Boil 2-3 leaves and 4-5 flowers in a glass of water, add 2-3 basil leaves and drink it like tea.
for stomach worms
Grind the leaves in a mortar and pestle to extract 2 tbsp juice and take it together Mishri and water.
Apply the paste of the leaves on the affected area.
Boil 3 grams bark and 2 grams leaves with 2-3 leaves of basil in water and drink it twice a day.
Night jasmine oil is used in aromatherapy to relieve stress and anxiety. It increases the level of serotonin in your brain and regulates the mood which makes you feel happy.
