Jewar Airport Inauguration Updates: PM Modi laid the foundation stone of Noida International Airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone of the Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. It will be one of the largest airports in Asia.

The second international airport, in the Delhi-NCR region, is expected to be operational by September 2024, with an initial capacity of handling 12 million passengers per year.

Spread over 1,330 acres of land, the airport will be developed by Zurich Airport International AG.

On Wednesday, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the Noida International Airport will become one of the largest airports in Asia.

According to the Uttar Pradesh government, it will be the fourth largest international airport in the world and the project will generate more than one lakh job opportunities.

The first phase of the airport is being carried out at a cost of over Rs 10,050 crore and the ground work regarding land acquisition and rehabilitation of the affected families has been completed, an official release said on Tuesday.

The airport at Jewar will help decongest the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in the national capital. It is strategically located and will serve the people of cities including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Agra, Faridabad and neighboring areas, the release said.

The airport will also be the “first net zero emission airport” in the country.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia on Thursday said that the Noida International Airport will generate employment opportunities for over 1 lakh people.

Speaking on the sidelines of the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Noida International Airport, the Union Minister said that Uttar Pradesh will soon have 17 airports.

“Noida International Airport will be a multi-modal connectivity hub and will bring investment of Rs 60,000 crore to Uttar Pradesh. It will create employment opportunities for over 1 lakh people. Soon we will have 17 airports including an international airport in Ayodhya. Will see the state,” Mr. Scindia said.

“I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and greet all of you at the Jewar airport,” he said.

Noida Police has issued a traffic advisory ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jewar in Uttar Pradesh, where he will launch the construction of an international airport.

Hundreds of people have come to the area in buses and tractors to attend the construction program of the Noida International Airport, leading to traffic jams in some areas near Jewar, 99 km from Delhi.

In a traffic advisory, Noida Police said that VIP vehicles coming from village Sabota will be allowed to park in the area marked “P-08”.

VIP and media vehicles coming from Bulandshahr and Jhajjar side can park at a place designated as “P-04” behind Ranehra Police Station.
