Hyundai IONIQ 5 Electric SUV Spotted Testing in India

Hyundai Motor India has been one of the few mainstream car manufacturers in India selling fully electric vehicles in the country. While the company’s Kona electric SUV is doing quite well, the Korean carmaker is planning to bring more EVs to our shores, and the next one could possibly be the Hyundai IONIQ 5. A test mule of the electric SUV was recently tested in India. , especially in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Now, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 made its global debut earlier this year in February 2021, and as you can see in these spy pictures, the electric SUV comes with a very futuristic design. The sharp lines and hidden LED taillight give a bold look to the rear. While the front portion of the SUV is not visible in these images, let us tell you that the SUV comes equipped with Hyundai’s first clamshell hood that reduces panel gaps for optimum aerodynamics. On the sides, the electric SUV comes with auto flush-fitting door handles, and the diagonal character line on the doors helps to form a ‘Z’ pattern. The aero-optimized wheels further echo the Parametric Pixel design theme and are offered in a super-sized 20-inch diameter, the largest rim ever for a Hyundai EV.

As for the cabin, Hyundai has gone for a ‘living space’ theme, which includes features like the Universal Island, a movable center console that can slide backwards by up to 140 mm. The electric car is also equipped with electronically adjustable front seats. The seats recline at optimum angles, providing a weightless feeling for the occupant. Hyundai reduced the thickness of the front seats by 30 percent, providing more space for second row occupants. Hyundai has used the ‘living space’ theme for the IONIQ 5, which gets a movable center console, and the seats recline at optimum angles, providing a weightless feeling for the occupant.

The IONIQ 5 is built on Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated BEV architecture called Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The SUV comes with two battery pack options, either 58 kWh or 72.6 kWh, and two electric motor layouts, either with only one rear motor or with both front and rear motors. The former is paired with an electric all-wheel drive (AWD) system and can produce a combined power output of 225kW (301 bhp) and 605 Nm of torque. The SUV comes with a top driving range of up to 481 km and a top speed of 185 kmph.
