Flood in areas of Bangalore, Chennai after rain

Overnight rains in Bengaluru led to heavy waterlogging in many parts of the city.

On Sunday night, torrential rains in some parts of the south resulted in heavy flooding in many areas of North Bengaluru and Manali region of North Chennai.

Water entered several houses in the Manali suburb of the Tamil Nadu capital. Several parts of the neighborhood in north Chennai were heavily submerged due to excess discharge from the Kosthalaiyar river. Additional water inflow from neighboring Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor city also contributed to the overnight floods.

Boats have been deployed in some areas of North Chennai to deal with the situation. The discharge from Poondi reservoir in Tamil Nadu’s Thiruvallur district will also reduce, officials said today.

Meanwhile, Karnataka capital Bengaluru witnessed heavy floods overnight as the Alasandra lake overflowed, submerging the areas around the lake. Due to last night’s rain, several roads in north Bengaluru have been flooded.

Yelahanka, Nagawara, Kogilu Cross and Vidyaranyapura areas of Bengaluru were particularly affected by the rains. In Yelahanka, it received 134 mm of rain in the last 24 hours alone, causing heavy waterlogging in the area.
