Besides Anand, who was a disciple of Narendra Giri, Aadya Prasad Tiwari and Sandeep Tiwari were also named in the chargesheet. All three were named in Narendra Giri’s suicide note; He accused them of mentally torturing them, following which the police registered an FIR on charges of abetment to suicide.
The three accused, who were arrested 24 hours after Narendra Giri’s death, are already in jail.
And 48 hours after that, the CBI took over the case on the recommendation of the UP government.
The agency has recovered tapes of conversations between the accused and sent them for forensic examination. It moved the court to record voice samples from Anand Giri and other accused, which they want to compare with the tapes recovered.
The accused had refused to give consent for the voice recording.
In September, police said Narendra Giri had recorded a video on his mobile phone – an hour before his alleged suicide – in which he said he feared Anand Giri might want to make a morphed photo of him with a woman, And he (his disciple) wanted to embarrass him.
Police said the allegations in the video matched with a 13-page suicide note found near his body. The police also said in the note that Narendra Giri accused the three men of blackmailing her and spoke of being depressed.
Anand Giri – who was virtual number 2 at the ashram – was expelled by Narendra Giri earlier this year on charges of financial fraud and irregularities, but apparently returned.
