Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli write emotional post after AB de Villiers’ retirement, calling him ‘one of the greatest men and cricketers’

Actress Anushka Sharma expressed grief over South African legend AB de Villiers’ announcement of retirement at the age of 37. Anushka is married to cricket star Virat Kohli described de Villiers’ retirement as ‘heartbreaking’ in an Instagram note.

Anushka posted a picture of AB de Villiers on her Instagram story and wrote, “I am privileged to have known and seen one of the greatest men and cricketers ever. Best wishes to you, Danielle and the kids always in life. You guys are everything beautiful and worth so much, it’s really heartwarming [broken heart emoji],

Abraham Benjamin de Villiers, who played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is, announced his retirement on Twitter. He wrote, “It has been an incredible journey, but I have decided to retire from all cricket. Ever since the backyard match with my older brothers, I have played the game with pure joy and unbridled enthusiasm. Now at the age of 37, that flame no longer burns as fast.

He continued, “This is the reality I must accept – and, even though it may seem sudden, I am making this announcement today. I have my time. Cricket has been exceptionally kind to me. Regardless. Playing for Titans, or Proteas, or RCB, or around the world, the game has given me unimaginable experiences and opportunities, and I will be forever grateful.

Virat Kohli also wrote an emotional post on the news of retirement. “The best player and most inspirational person of our times I have met, you can be very proud of what you have done and what you have given to my brother RCB. Our bond is beyond sport and always will be,” he wrote. He continued, “It hurts my heart but I know you have made the best decision as always for yourself and your family. [Broken heart emoji] Love you @ABdeVilliers17.”

AB de Villiers replied to Virat’s tweet saying, “I love you too my brother.”
