Amitabh Bachchan sends legal notice to Pan Masala brand as commercials continue to air despite contract expiring

Actor Amitabh Bachchan has sent a legal notice to a pan masala brand, which has continued to air TV commercials despite the contract being terminated. He had announced his withdrawal from the Kamala Pasand campaign in October, after a national anti-tobacco organization requested him to refrain from endorsing the Pan Masala brand to help save youth from tobacco addiction. Bachchan Trolls were also done on social media for publicity.

“Mr. Bachchan’s office learned that a legal notice has been sent to Kamala Pasand, to immediately stop the telecast of TV commercials with Mr. Bachchan.. as it was observed that ‘Kamla Pasands’ ignored despite termination of the endorsement agreement. The same and TV commercials are seen to continue airing,” confirmed a source close to the actor.

Bachchan Announcing his withdrawal from the advertising campaign on his 79th birthday, he said that he was not aware that it came under surrogate advertising. Surrogate advertising is defined as a form of advertising that is used to promote banned products, such as cigarettes/tobacco and alcohol, in the guise of another.

A statement from the actor’s office at the time read, “Kamala Pasand… Days after the ad aired, Mr. Bachchan contacted the brand and walked out of it last week. Upon checking this sudden move – it It is learned that when Mr. Bachchan was associated with the brand, he was not aware that it was covered under surrogate advertising. Mr. Bachchan has terminated the contract with the brand, writing to him for its termination and for promotion. The money received for the same has been refunded.”

A few days before the statement, the actor had also replied to a person on social media who questioned his move. He then defended his stand, calling it a part of the entertainment business that employs many people.

The advertisement was released in mid-September and mentioned Kamala likes “silver coated cardamom”. The ad, which also featured Ranveer Singh, was pulled down almost immediately by social media and anti-tobacco organizations.
