Airtel announces 20-25% hike on prepaid plans: All you need to know

Bharti Airtel today announced that the telecom operator will hike the prices of its prepaid plans for various plans in India. The new rates will affect data top up recharge along with voice plans, unlimited voice and data plan bundles. Depending on the type of plan, the newly hiked price could see an increase of between 20 per cent to 25 per cent.

The new changes in the plans will be effective from November 26, 2021.

Entry-level voice plans by Airtel have now seen a 25 per cent hike, while most unlimited voice bundles (plans with unlimited calling and daily-data limits for speed) will see a hike of around 20 per cent.

The company said, “Bharti Airtel has always ensured that the Average Mobile Revenue Per User (ARPU) should be Rs 200 and ultimately Rs 300, in order to provide a reasonable return on capital that allows a financially sound business model. is,” the company said. ,

“We also believe that this level of ARPU will enable the substantial investment required in network and spectrum. More importantly, it will give Airtel an elbow room to roll out 5G in India. Hence, the first step As of now, we undertake to rebalance our tariffs during the month of November. Accordingly, our new tariffs, as detailed below, will be effective from November 26, 2021,” the company said.

As per the hike, the Rs 79 voice plan will now cost Rs 99 and will offer “50 per cent more talk time, 200 MB data, 1p/sec voice tariff of Rs 99”.

The move could signal a wave of increased tariffs as companies look at ways to profit ahead of the upcoming 5G wave. We can possibly see other players like Jio and Vodafone Idea also increasing the prices soon.
